My name is Melissa Brown. I am a Nurse Practitioner at the University of Michigan Medical Center. I work in Electrophysiology which is a subset of cardiology focusing on the electric system of the heart. Working specifically with pacemakers, internal defibrillators, and cardiac arrhythmia problems. I got interested in cardiology because my grandmother had cardiovascular disease, and it’s the number 1 killer, and I truly enjoy learning about the heart. I hope to be a more vital part in my community to bring awareness and hopefully prevention and treatment for cardiovascular issues. A goal of mine is to start a scholarship program for underrepresented students to pursue a career in nursing.
